Action taken good or bad?

Your thoughts please.

Well, first of all, let me say that "good" or "bad" are subjective matters. Escalations are positivie when stakeholders understand that the escalation is to find help to failitate their work in the project. That is the key, in my personal opion, Each time I am assigned to a new initiative this is one of the first things I put clear with all involved people. Escalation is to find help. Not for me or the project. For people to facilitate their work in the project.

Escalations are the ace card for when needed. Limited, but available if the situation warrants.

You are welcome. Just to add some comment it is a hard work (at least in my personal experience) to work with stakeholders to help them to understand when I am escaling is to find help for them. Culture is a must. I found is not the same from some people in Latin America than into the USA than into Europe or Asia to know that they will be escalated if needed.

Escalation is a viable and acceptable action when it becomes necessary.

Escalation mechanism and how they are addressed shhould be communicated to all stakeholders in advance. Instead of saying escalation is good or bad, escalation is relevant in some situations. But it should not become personal

As per management, you should first collect and gather all data related to issue, and try make face-face meeting to solve problem. If it isn't passed, you can escalate to top management. So, it's better solve problem or conflict by face-face meeting by inter personnel skills.

If the stakeholder has not responded despite attempts to contact them then good action was taken because you are working in favor of your project. While you have nothing against the stakeholder, s/he has not done their responsibility towards the project. If they are too busy to even respond, then you know that you need someone can be more engaged.

A structured escalation process can only be a good thing. Departmental, local management, division etc etc.

Milind -

So long as the escalation was done at the right time and with the right intention and professionally, I wouldn't worry about good or bad.

I wrote an article a while back on the topic of timely escalation: https://www.projectmanagement.com/blog-pos...nate--escalate-
