Which do you prefer, being an employee of an organization or a contractor? Why do you prefer it?

I agree with Dianah.

The contract in our country is rather than contract in USA ,Europe, because the contract might not get any payments when they are off via ( social authority ) which means when I have NO work I can still get some money from issuance until I get another job.
Thus why I prefer employee. as I used to get all my rights.

I've done both off and on and would still prefer full-time work as I like being part of a long-lived, high performing team with my Maslow's third level needs being met.

So long as autonomy, mastery & purpose are addressed (thanks Daniel Pink!) that works for me.

The financial benefits of contracting are significant, but being a hired gun can be a lonely existence...

I like FTE better due to planning and the HR (ie tax and benefits) administration is done for you. I would say however the worst is being a FTE whose employment relies on one year project contracts. I've been doing that in the defense industry for ten years amazingly, because it's hard to plan for the future and you never know if today is your last.

I have done both, with contract you loose all benefits so I prefer the full time all benefits ans you still can do continuous improvement so exciting not boring and you can climb the ladder of promotion
simply let me put it this way you are unemployed you have got an offer of contract - take it but if you have full time position and you have been offered contract job don't take it

Preference is always subjective. both full time and contractor based work have their own pros and cons.
Agree with Alberto for bringing out the details nicely

Every option have its ups and down but being an employee have more loyalty as compared to contractor towards company goals
