How often do you as Project Manager say thank you to your SME's

A good SME should never be taken for granted...

Once you get a non-reliable SME in your team, you'll regret not saying thank to former good SME's...

In my view as part of Stakeholder & Communication Management, recognizing efforts of SME's is important.

I personally thank them often. I try my best to make them visible to the senior leaders for recognition of their efforts, knowledge & performance.

As and when I call SME's to participate in a meeting, I say Thank you to them after the meeting.

I thank them for teaching me, I thank them for responding when I have an urgent question, I thank them for not calling me an idiot when it takes me two hours to grasp a concept that they regard as simple. I thank them for spending hours with me going over processes in detail; which is about the only way my projects get off the ground.

I try to thank them whenever they do something that nudges the goals a little closer.

I try to avoid thanking them when they aren't that good (unless they do something worthy of thanks). I have done that in the past as a form of encouragement, it doesn't seem to work - the opposite seems to happen.
