Researching salary for a PM job

In doing research on salary for PM jobs, how can I find the prospective salaries of jobs most similar to mine? Sites like salary.com have levels for positions (PM I, PM II, etc.) but don;t take into account the diversity fo jobs across industries.

specifically, I am trying to identify the pay range for jobs as an interactive website or web development PM, and then one for PM of software development in an IT department.

Any help or guidance on more effectively narrowing down the pay sclaes, and including metro regions is helpful.

These vary by area and role and experience, but in most areas there is someone who gathers such statistics and publishes them - read your trade press and join trade blogs and discussion groups for your area and soon enough you'll find a local one.
