As we know Planning is not the silver bullet, it may not solve everything by itself but it certainly makes a great trigger on the gun.

What are the other tools needed?

If there was just one, life as a PM would be easy. Unfortunately there are many potential causes of unsuccessful project execution, most of which surface out of Planning, Execution, and Monitoring and Controlling. Organizational governance matters (e.g. guidelines for recognizing and containing risks, change control processes, clear understanding of role, responsibilities and decision-making authorities. Whether or not the project teams employ Best Practices matters. How capable the PM is matters. Expectations and Communications matter. Sorry, I do not believe there is a single "silver bullet" or ever will be just one.
Mike, probably thanks for your feedback

Although the initial project definition dovetails into planning, for most projects, it is one fundamental stage at which the foundation for a successful or failed project is laid. A well defined project is a sine qua non for success.

But I concur with Kiron's point; all the process groups play an important part in the big picture!

Abdul Aziz brother thanks for your feedback you are right planning is very important but it is not the silver bullet it is just one tool and can not solve everything by itself, so we all agree we need to look at the big picture and all processes must get balanced attention.
