Do you think that ,technical skills are essential for a Project Manager to be successful in leading a project? or Just having the PM knowledge and skills are sufficient to manage a project?

This is always an interesting question.
I feel that your question itself is a little lacking in depth to give an adequate answer.

Project Management in itself is a technical skill. It requires process and structure. The act of being a Project Manager and the skills required are intrinsically tied into the project itself. The makeup of the project team is also a critical factor in deciding what technical skills the PM must have. If you have a technically skilled (in the technology and in the business aspects) team, then your ability to manage them and the timelines, budget and scope will be more critical that your configuration, coding or construction knowledge.

I've always felt that a PM needs to know his project at a detailed level, not so he/she can actually do it, but so that he/she can accurately estimate, budget and execute against the plan and mediate issues between parties that cannot reach agreement. If the PM has little or no technical or business savvy then he/she is at the behest of those on the team, and this can create weakness at times when strength is required.

There are so many answers to this question, this is one perspective. The other replies I read seemed perfectly valid also.
