Has someone ever tried to say something negative about you and you took it as a compliment?

The other day one of my coworkers told me that I was no nonsense and direct. I realized that she was not saying it as a compliment. Apparently, that can be intimidating to people.
I took it as a compliment because that is what I am. I am nice about it, but time is money and I don't like wasting time beating around the bush. I am here to do a job, let's get it done.
