Hi everyone,
I'd kindly ask you some idea on how to improve communication within the team.
I am planning to arrange a dedicated session with my team members but I'd pursue intiviatives different with respect classic team building ones ("building a cartoon boat",trekking, etc..). I am looking for something more "real life" exercise. Do you have some ideas? Thanks in advance, matteo

If you want real world, Matteo, and want to focus on communication then if your team is 10 people, consider taking them to a large escape room (assuming they have some near your location). The short duration to solve all the puzzles and the need to collaborate effectively make it a good communication-focused team building event.

Hi Matteo,

That's a really nice topic to approach. Listen, most of PMs are not communicators, most of PMs are Engineers like me. I have the opportunity to be married with a communicator and some of the lessons learned on this field is that even if we try to do it well, it is important to ask help the communications area on your company. Of course I can share with you some tools, but I need first to know your goal, what do you want to reach? general communications within the team? or something specific?

^ Jesus, I'm not sure I would agree with that statement - that most PM's are Engineers and not good communicators. Where do you get that from? Or why do you think that? Just curious.

Nice suggestion by Kiron. There are also treasure hunt type activities that the group can participate in.

I think Jesus means that it's important to manage fluently communication. And sometimes, an engineering background is not providing communication skills (that can be built on the job). To enter into detail I plan to reach 2 goals:
-short term: built together the list of team rules
-mid/long term:continuos improvement plan for the team and for the players to have them more engaged and motivated.

Hi Matteo,

Yes, you are right. We are scientific focused and the communications skills are not well defined. Well for your goals I can suggest the tool "Feedback 360". I have used it and I had obtain great results. Please search about it and apply as it is required.

You could get team improving and engaging once the team feels that you listen they comments and understand them, as well you consider they opinions. In my experience works better to be closed with your team than being a boss.

1. Don't jump to solve each and every problem they have. Let them work on it. This will definitely make them roam around and to connect with other team members.
2. Utilize sprint review/retrospective meetings where team members are freely talking to each other and providing suggestions for betterment of team/work/deliverable.
