How about having few emoticons on this site for "Discussions & Blogs" ?

I like to have at least a few commonly used emoticons.

We have emoticons. You mean emojis I assume : )

But sure, overall I agree it would be more fun if there was a rich text editor with additional options when writing or responding.

@andrew, how you did that???

Ditto - how did you add the thumbs-up - I don't see any such option in the dialog box or do you have to copy & paste in some arcane hex code :-) ?

NO, just no.
Emotion has no place in professional discourse.
And if one needs to use a picture to convey an emotional state, then that person is a poor writer.

(my opinion - not mean to raise any pulses)

I think it will be a good addition, and I don't see a risk of people overusing them, to be honest. For me, the argument against emojis is like the one prescriptive grammarians use against splitting infinitives: Don't say "to boldly go where no one has ever gone" and say "to go boldly where no one has ever gone". Long story short: yes make them available, and it is a matter of personal choice how/when members use them -simple design thinking :-)
