Why do Project Managers tend to have too many team meetings?

If team members say that we don't have time to work as we have too many meetings, is it something wrong with project manager or team members?

Even in agile we find many team meetings such as daily scrum, sprint planning meeting, sprint reviews and retrospectives.
Is there this tension of having too many team meetings in agile teams? If no, what element in agile contributes to reduce this tension?

Do you really need to hold that meeting? Before you schedule a meeting determine the purpose, and the desired outcome. If the goal is to reach a decision, the meeting is necessary.

Time is the scarcest resource and unless it is managed nothing else can be managed.

You cannot avoid the meetings completely, just see how you can most out of it.
Also, this is my general observation is -
A company which is immature in processes, end up in having many meetings.
A company which is processes in place, will have less number of meetings.

So, if you are having lot of meetings, find out how you can set some processes around this and which will save time of every individual who is attending those meetings.

In Agile, meetings are required and hence every meeting should be time-boxed.

Well there is death by meeting; sometimes people just want to meet and meet. We need to find the right balance regarding value.

If a Project Manager interacts with his team members very frequently (outside of meetings) and is on top of things then many meetings can be avoided. A short touch-base with his/her teams & with the key stakeholders will only be needed. More than 30 minutes meeting is definitely not needed unless it is an architectural discussion or a meeting with a tough stakeholder.

Agile meetings like Daily Scrum can be skipped some days if team members are on the same page and are working collaboratively. All meetings need to be strictly time-boxed like in Agile.

This happens to me as to we have multiple meetings and cannot do any work. Used to attend three to four meetings with GM in a day. We cannot avoid I think. But, I think it is necessary as the motion changes from day to day

Making meetings productive is the key. I liked what Elon Musk said when advising people to leave bad meetings: "It is not rude to leave, it is rude to make someone stay and waste their time."
