The key question is whether you have enough hours of project leadership. Often senior engineers will work as team leads and other roles that include project leadership. Take a look at the PMI web site, especially the instructions for the PMP application. Look at your experience over the past six years, and see if you can legitimately claim the required numbers of hours of project leadership.
Your title does not really matter in the application. They key question is whether you were leading project teams and doing the core project management work (initiating, planning, executing, control/monitor, and close). Saving Changes...
