I manage a team of Project Managers. I am looking to help take them to the next level to be a trusted strategic advisor. Has anyone done something similar with your team? Looking for advice and thoughts on a roadmap to do this.

There's two prerequisites for this:

1. They bring a strategic lens to their recommendations or decisions. That might need a combination of mentoring (under a strategic leader) and soliciting feedback from peers and superiors.

2. Being perceived as a credible, strategic resource - that usually comes through cultivation of key relationships and lots of experience.

Kiron - do you have a journey map to get there? Do you know of any training / skills to really get them to that next level of a PM Leader?

No - there is no single path that works for an individual or a company. Usually it's a question of building a track record of successful delivery and demonstrating one's strategic thinking through the decisions made on those projects...

PMs who want to be Trusted Advisors must understand international business so they can discourse intelligently with various leaders about the areas they manage. More importantly, they must understand how various business areas fit together so they can recognize trends and formulate strategies to benefit those they advise. To that end I'd add international business skill training and Business Analysis to your road map.
