There is a lot of buzz around life-work balance, yet so many of us still take our work home with us. Why?

I try not to carry out work at home. I have more than two years without doing so. It requires that I work hard the whole day that and plan well my day.
Thanks for the contribution Jesus and Mansour.

Strive for work-life integration rather than balance. The key is that if you choose to do work outside of normal working hours from home, that should be your choice and not something imposed on you and this should not impact your other personal commitments.

Kiron
Interesting point Kiron, but I still think that striving to balance this integration is key.

I mostly try to wrap it up at office and try to spend only family time at home but there are situations and deadlines to be met which may have been impacted due to some delays or changes hence forcing the deadline to be met in short span of time thats when may be you need to take some work home since you can't stay at workplace entire day.
Yeah Suchitra, sometimes it becomes a necessity to do this.

I do not purposely take work home. I do take my laptop home every day, but actually doing work after hours is on a needs basis.
I agree with you Andrew, but I sometimes get overwhelmed with those needs that creep into my schedule on everyday basis.

I do at times especially when I have some project tasks to complete before deadline. occasionally I may not archived set target at work hours so I take work home.
Project Managers who are also operation/ administrative managers may have difficulty keeping off work at home.

As far as work life balance is concerned, I try to give it my best shot because work from home is not imposed on me but it is rather a personal choice

I tend to take work home. I often struggle with the "work-life balance" as there have been significant demands placed on my work, as we are deploying a new PPM tool. I have learned that when I work more than 50 hours I tend to be less productive as time goes on. I try to limit myself to two or three weeks of 50 hours and then find time for a short week or a straight 40 hours.
