I read PMBOK several times and I am really confusing whether PMBOK Guide is standard?
1. The cover showing: "PROJECT MANAGEMÊNT BODY OF KNOWLEDGE/ PMBOK GUIDE SIXTH EDITION" and at the bottom showing: INCLUDES THE STANDARD FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT ANSI/PMl99-001-2017
2. The table of content showing:
- PART 1. A GUIDE TO THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT BODY OF KNOWLEDGE (PMBOK® Guide)
- PART 2. THE STANDARD FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT.
- PART 3. APPEND CES, GLOSSARY, AND INDEX
As I understand, PMBOK Guide means Part 1 only. The Standard for Project Management is Part 2, and named as ANSI/PMl99-001-2017. So that PMBOK Guide is not a standard, it is just a GUIDE - a base (framework) to build the standard: ANSI/PMl99-001-2017. Is it reasonable? Please share your idea. Thank you. Saving Changes...

Question is: does it matter?. My answer: not at all. But returning to your question you will find the answer insde the PMBOK itself, mainly into the definition. The Guide is just that, a guide. The standard is the body of knowledge that you will find today in the same book.
The PMBOK Guide Sixth Edition is made up of two parts - a guide (not a standard) which distills and curates a number of the key learnings from the overall PMBOK and the ANSI standard which is a true standard.

What is exactly seems to be so confusing?! Because it could be that you are questioning the technical language about PMI, perhaps? Remember!!!! PMI is the only accredited body which guides the foundation of all project management tasks.

I am sorry I dont really understand what you mean? Tks.
-Standard part is not written as summary
-It was written by sorted of process groups (5 process groups)----Very Important
- It does not mentioned the tools & technologies inside every process (49 processes)
- Finally this part might be written for references only for those PMs who refer their works by 5 process groups.
- In my opinion students Most of students prefer to read/understand the PMBOK 6th Ed by Knowledge area ( 4.1,4.2,4.3,4.4,4.5,4.6,4.7,5.1,5.2...e.t.c) , however you should understand them by 5 process groups.
All information written in standard part were found in 1st part (which contain 13 chapters).
I recommend students ( to read the first part 2-3 times.) ,(1 time for standard part)
,(2-3 times the . APPENDCES, GLOSSARY, AND INDEX )
and finally ( 2-3 times Agile practices).
