Now that I've achieved my CAPM, how can I get my first job in project management? Your advice is appreciated!

Sherry,

Congratulations! One of my team members just recently received his CAPM designation and I couldn't be prouder.

What kind of companies are you applying to? You mention that you have a background in graphic design - that screams digital agency to me. Have you looked into any of those types of companies?

Digital project management tends to be slightly different from a standard project manager in that you are expected to wear both hats (graphics design and project management).

I usually see folks from digital agencies move into a pure project management role about a year after having worked in a digital agency. They have to leave the company to do it but it gave them great experience.

Congratulations, Sherry! How's the new job?! Start working towards your PMP certification. Find out the requirements, and try to get assigned tasks that will qualify towards your PMP application.
