Hi,

I recently earned CAPM certification, but I am struggling to find a position, even remotely.

All positions require previous project management experience in an official capacity.

I have experience managing projects, but not with a PM title. My resume reflects this experience, but I'm kind of hitting a wall here.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Christopher,
Check with contacts in local PMI chapter. Be an active participant in PMI local chapter activities. I am sure you will find enough opportunities. My best wishes to you

Congrats on your CAPM exam.

Try looking for a project coordinator role, this is a good place to start. Good Luck !

You may need to start with volunteering or approach companies (not job ads) and offer your services for any projects they have.

Hi Cristopher,

I am exactly in the same position.

I am agree with you: is not possible to become PMI with no experience but CPAM is not really opening to many doors to get the experience you need.

If you have tech. background maybe you can look for project engineer positions. In some companies, this role includes, budgeting, scheduling and dealing with contractors, so PM knowledge is helpful.

Best luck

Congratulations. Great suggestions above. Also, be sure to craft your resume to highlight the appropriate skills, experience, and accomplishments.

Congratulations Christopher! I would re-iterate, volunteering for your local chapter and engaging/attending events/networking might open new doors. Undertaking a personal or a volunteer project and demonstrating that you have applied the project management principles might be another approach. You might also want to consider working for a PMO as a Project Coordinator or Project Analyst as a start.

Watch for job ads that say "project management certification" instead of PMP. You may be hitting the HR screening wall, and they may not know what CAPM is. If it's automated screening, it's looking for keywords. If it's looking for PMP and you don't have it, your resume won't be seen by human eyes, unless you know someone.
