Do any of you guys have experience using any Project Managment Methodology S/W. Or any such related products. How effective are they from your experience? Some one in my organisation suggested MPMM Professional Edition by Method123 link-> http://www.mpmm.com/project-management-professional-products.php
I am not tottally convinced ... Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

There isn't one application that is good for everyone. Without knowing the level of expertise in your department, this is the advice I'd offer. Some would say it is worth what you pay for it. (-;

The order of addressing project management process implementation is to have your PMs speaking a common language, and improve PM skills (people). Then concentrate on establishing common processes (process). The last thing you focus on is tools such as project management software (tools). The tool without the knowledge is a waste of time. If you can't embed the tool in the PMs' workflow, it won't be accepted and used. Dictacting PMs to use a tool doesn't make it happen, it just increases employee turnover.

Buying $200 basketball shoes don't make you a better player; only experience does. Buying software doesn't make project managers better. People, processes, tools - in that order.

Dear Anon,

I agree with Robert. There isn't one application that is categorically best and that goes for Project Management Methodology applications as well. And Robert's advice is spot on. First address the people side vis a vis skills and common language. Next address that process side vis a vis a common process (ideally one that is fitted for your environment and addresses the policies and guidelines with your criteria, not canned criteria).

You mentioned that you are not totally convinced. I don't know if you meant that you were not convinced of the value of "Project Management Methodology" or the value of "MPMM". The former is undeniable, the latter of course varies based upon your business need and how well MPMM meets that need. In addition to MPMM, there are a number of fine Project Management Methodology products out there, each with their own value proposition, strengths, and weaknesses. Without knowing more of what you are seeking to accomplish, it is hard to comment on whether MPMM or one of the other Project Management Methodology products would be of best value and fit to you and your organization. Having said that, below in alphabetical order for your consideration are a few leading Project Management Methodology offerings intended for organizations such as PMOs (as opposed to single user template toolkits).

More and more organizations are viewing and implementing Project Management Methodology as a key part of their PMO Architecture as opposed to just a PM reference site or methodology document and templates. For an overview of this approach, see the Gantthead blog article from "PMO Setup T3 - Tips, Tools, and Techniques" called "PMO Architecture: Does your organization have one?" This might help convince you on what approach is best for your organization.
