Is the universe a project?

PMI's definition of a project is: "a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. The temporary nature of projects indicates that a project has a definite beginning and end."

It would be hard to say the universe is temporary, and we have no idea if it is unique, nor can we prove it has a definite beginning and end. So, is the universe a project, or operations (business as usual)?

Haha.. funny or philosophical it seems a great question. :)

I can only guess: if we take time as a dimension and consider the cyclicality of the events happening around (seasons, rotation of bodies/planets around their Sun) is seems like te universe is more of 'Operation' rather than project.

Another way I think is (and thanks to you I am putting some stress on my mind).. if we see events in higher scale of time everything will look like "Operation" and if we consider time at lower scale everything will look like a "Project".. debatable though.

IN BASIC TERMS.....If indeed a project is a program of action whereas a program is a policy of action,...that a project is unique, has time frame, budget, involves stakeholders, (to name a few) then;
i) has the universe as a project been subjected to a closure and under what category (failure /success)
ii)were the deliverables achieved in totality and what were they?
iii)under what budget was it operating anyway?

sure, no wonder we may or are meant to be the that project's deliverable and as such the author of this question deserves some PDUs. it would be easier to say than to prove this to be a project (authenticity is not a merit). meanwhile I take it as a question beyond my dorso-lateral pre-frontal thinking capacity I proudly own.

Yes, the universe is a project, since it has a beginning, end, and is unique (not routine), towards reaching a goal (PMI). Great question.

"A project is temporary in that it has a defined beginning and end in time, and therefore defined scope and resources. And a project is unique in that it is not a routine operation, but a specific set of operations designed to accomplish a singular goal."

If we put aside the Big bang theory and assume that the universe is a collection of objects with their proper physical laws and uncertainty nature (galaxies, black holes, dark matter, anti-matter etc), the universe is probably a collection of projects: a programme. Indeed a project is well-defined (e.g Project Charter defining scope and objectives....), while a program tends to have greater levels of uncertainty...like the Universe.
