In the PMI Org. Agile Conf.- John Daly talked about seeing the PM role more as a leader rather than a manager.... very interesting. Personally, think the word leader is thrown around a little bit too much. So how does a "Project Leader" differ from a "Project Manager? Saving Changes...

Wow, I had no idea:) actually it is very difficult to raise horses, you must respect them and make you respected, you must imply rules but also have fun with them, you must master a technique but be able to adjust quickly when anything happens. Horses have personalities, habits, you need to motivate them to make the work done. So yeah, it fits to a project manager.
Definitely a project leader can be a PM, but a PM is not a project leader. Having said that, both have different roles. A project lead, leads people throughout the project, whereas PM is concerned about meeting the deadlines.

A project manager is a project leader, and Id rather use leader than a manager as you lead your team towards success with your skills and you lead by example. A PM who is not a leader, won't be successful.

I agree with Rami, you must be a leader if you want to achieve results with your team. I don’t distinguish between leader, manager, project director. The only think where I see a big different is when someone is a project coordinator. That indicates only partial responsibility and suggests more of reporting, tracking than a real project management in its full complexity.

A Manager is not a leader. A Manager ability is to detect the leader into her/his group. Just in case she/he can be both no problem. Unfortunatelly some people still trying to sell things when performing conferences. Saving Changes...
Leader motivates people. Boss tosses people. I assume PM is same as boss

Different organizations use different terminology but if someone has a job title Project Manager, I believe it does not say anything about their actual leadership skills. Succesful PMs are good leaders.
