Hi PM Community -
PMI has 2 Practice Guides - Requirement Management and Business Analysis.
I skimmed thru the contents and they appear to be a bit similar. I would like to know which one is a good place to start for a beginner.
How are these guides different?

You are right. Just to comment I was part of the group that created both. "Buisness Analysis for Practitioners, Practice Guide" was created in the first place. If you are trying to understand the business analisys role then that is the source of information that you have to take. Remember that there are two main types or requirements: product requirements and project requirements. From the first one the second one are created. Business Analyst is accountable for product requirements while Project Manager is accountable for project requirements. "Requirements Management Practice Guide" was created time after. The intention was to create a best practices guide related to requirements no matter they are product or project requirements. You will find some similarities because the intention to achieve consistency.

For Business Analysis, there are two references that are sufficient enough for you to get a clear understanding:

Business Analysis for Practitioners: A Practice Guide
The PMI Guide to Business Analysis

As Sergio mentioned, if you are trying to understand the BA role, start with Business Analysis for Practitioners Practice Guide.
