The contractor's project manager should provide a recovery schedule to get the project back to planned progress without a change in contract milestones. In doing so, the contractor should explain the delay, reasons for delay, the action taken and the preventive action to avoid recurrence.

Hello Henry
Somewhere delay is due to Client's mistake in Engineering,
But instead of playing blame game, What Project manager can do...???

That would depend on whether or not cost and/or is a major constraint. If there is wiggle room in either, then the schedule can be re-aligned with the baseline by spending more or scoping less.

Hello Mr. Vergini
No Cost is not a major constraints as it's not applicable on this mistake, it's just an activity which is missed due to mistake of Client, Now contractor has to take 25 days, which will be make a buffer for the activity for missing Engineering activity

It is good to hear the client avoided the blame game. With that in mind, the client will provide the contractor with an excusable delay equal to a 25 day adjustment to performance milestones. Since you still desire to recover, the PM will need to work with the contractor and get his good will to progress work to eliminate the 25 day delay despite the client making a mistake. However, the contractor will expect some consideration for future schedule delays that may be attributed to the contractor.

Well, you see, the recovery plan depends on the outliers. You have not shared the EVM of the project. It would help us derive what you would need to do.

What should the Project Manager do?

The following are the activities that could add-up to arrive at recovery schedule:

1. Referring to the contractual terms to understand how to handle recovery schedule
2. Identifying the impact of the delay - (schedule and cost)
3. Baselining the constraints for the project highlighting with the Schedule and Cost impact
4. Reestablishing the EVM to get a clear picture
5. Baseline the plan and work on the Planning
