You just initiated a project to establish windmills in a developing country. To celebrate the initiation of the project, the customers arranged a party in which a key customer offered valuables to you and all your project team members with a request to complete the project sooner than the actual finish date. What should you do?
A.Accept the offer and agree to finish the project early
B.Reject the offer because it violates the code of ethics and professional conduct
C.Accept the offer but refuse to complete the project early
D.Reject the offer and do not communicate with that customer

B is what makes most sense. This is considered against the code of ethics to accept a gift against doing something different other than what was officially agreed on.

B, notify your Management immediately verbally ASAP, & in writing for sure ASAP,

Depends on value of gift. If over a certain amount (over $25?) could be considered bribery, in US, esp. if government, and must be rejected immediately, notify manager in writing asap.

If less than $25, may not be bribery, but must notify manager immediately, including value of gift.

If not bribery, then ask manager if they want to reconsider recalculate time & cost to see if they could possibly finish early by date just requested. If not, tell customer immediately.

Even if manager approves, still tell him you will check with company ethics team; he may change his mind.

Different countries have different laws and customs. In some countries, this happens. However we are bound by PMI ethics, and company ethics, and country ethics and laws.

Bribery is illegal in the US. So is accepting gifts over a certain dollar amount, based on country, company, & sector.

US government is not allowed to accept much, possibly not even a free cup of coffee, defintely not over $25,

then possibly D.

if they have a history of unethical behavior, they will not learn to become ethical, they will try to drag you down into unethicality. That's what unethical people do (perhaps unintentionally).

Everything must be in writing to manager & ethics team. If something goes wrong, they will not defend you. they will let you take a rap even if it's not your fault.

Have a nice day!
