Managing your risks through a strong risk plan is critical but sometimes things come at you from left field that you hadn’t prepared for. Mine was an ERP implementation project where our key vendor expert on the accounting side who our accounting team respected and trusted greatly three months into the project was in a serous motorcycle accident and was off the project for six months. Luckily the vendor had the bench strength to bring in another resource but the timeline was seriously impacted by the time it took to spin the resource up on our account and build relationships. It was a lesson learned for me to always check for bench strength by our vendors before signing off on contracts.
