Good luck, to all of you, with your upcoming exams.
Since you show interest in the project management profession, it certainly is worth trying to connect with fellow professionals in your area. Chapter's purpose is exactly this. As evolving project manager, you benefit from people who know about your problems and may be able to offer advice. My family and friends never understood project management, so I fould equals in a Chapter.
Look out for a mentor. A Chapter will offer PM training, learning aboiut experiences, and if you are ready, opportunities to give back, to volunteer. Volunteering is an excellent way to build your servant leadership skills.
I am member of several Chapters, in different countries. I started in 1992, become a volunteer in 1998 and continue to be. If there is no Chapter in your country, maybe something nearby may be an option. Do not expect face2face meetings to happen soon, so all Chapters will offer virtual events over time. Kavita,
Obvious depends of the dynamics of each chapter, you should research information about the events and initiatives that the chapter you want to join have.
In my case my local chapter is money wasted, there are no significant events and initiatives that serves my purpose.
Joining a local chapter of PMI worth the time and resources, if properly managed by the PMI local members or leaders. In a developing country like Nigeria where the practice of professional Project Management (PM) is not well established especially in the construction industry, a local chapter would bring together like minds and professionals who can collaborate and take a local action to promote the sound PM in the country.
A local chapter can also form a lobby group to promote sound practice in government contracts administration and project executions. A local chapter can be a PM human resources hub where prospective clients (both private and governments) get different professional services such as recruitment of staff, execution of project, consultancy and training. It is also the responsibility of a local chapter to bring the enormous resources and benefits of PMI to the grassroots members and immediate community. Therefore, I believe that being a member of a local chapter of PMI and paying your dues would make you commit to all that PMI stands for and give you the opportunity to explore its worldwide resources as you engage and network locally.
