Hello,
My name is Swapnil and I have an experience of 6 years working with Bechtel for 5 years as a planning engineer (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Startup). I have been part of large scale construction projects in both planning and cost department. I wanted to extend my knowledge into other aspects of construction such as contracts, claims etc. I recently joined KPMG as a risk associate conducting capital project audits for the football stadiums being built in QATAR for FIFA 2022 world cup. I have also worked as the construction planner for the new Muscat international airport for which I was based out of Oman.
I want to pursue masters in project management because I believe I can take the next step and start my career as a project manager. However, the element of doubt is eating through my peace of mind. I want to study in either Ireland (UCD smurfit) or Australia.
Can anyone help me out regarding what my options will be post my masters? Minimum salary that I can expect? Job availability?
Please let me know your thoughts. Your views will be much appreciated. Saving Changes...
I think KPMG is a great company. Maybe they offer tuition reimbursement. Maybe you culd work fulltime, and study PM parttime, 1 course a t time, nights or weekends. Maybe KPMG woud pay. It's expensive. Some schools offer remote work for all, or all except 1 or 4 courses.
If you quit KPMG & go to school fulltime, it may be tough to explain in a job interview. It may be tougher to get back into job market. If you would like more info let me know. Saving Changes...
A masters degree should not be viewed as a step to get a job but rather a significant accomplishment into itself. You would likely have same if not more success in seeking a lateral role as a junior PM or project coordinator/analyst in your current company and taking a short comprehensive course in PM to fill any knowledge gaps you currently have.
Work as a PM for a few years and then pursue the Masters as you would have a wealth of experience (and likely many good thesis topics!) and the degree would complement that experience.
