Those days Agile is the norm, or at least the trend...
There are many anonymous visionaries that brought Agile where it is now.
Ohno's 1940 kanban, Wenberg's 1957 incremental development, Greenleaf's 1970 servant leader are just few of the concepts rediscovered by Agile.
Do you know a mention of the Agile Enterprise older than Young's 1995 article?

R.Y.K. Fung, Shouju Ren, 1994, "A framework of decision support systems (DSS) for agile enterprises ". Below is the Abstract, and below that is the URL.

"Meeting agreed customer requirements is a prime objective in this highly competitive business world. Therefore, companies have been trying different ways to eliminate redundant tasks so as to make their operations "lean" and "agile". In an agile enterprise, the correct interpretation of and the prompt response to the "voice of customers" would require an effective decision making mechanism. This paper explains the design and modelling of a decision support framework which employs a hybrid approach to tackle various operating problems in the manufacturing industry. A case study describing how such a model could be used to handle customer enquiries is quoted to illustrate the concept and characteristics of the proposed system"

Not sure they were the first, but the source precedes 1995.

Agile was built on continuous improvement and iterative development. Both have been around since at least the '70s.

Agile practices is software development are documented since 1958. Many practices that are now re-discovered were used in manufacturing much earlier.
My question is related to the term "Agile Enterprise". I had a reference from 95. Sante found one from 94. I found few more recently back to 92, all related to manufacturing.
