The PMBOKĀ® Guide 6th Edition has introduced the project business case as an input into the project charter. In my opinion this is a very welcome addition, along with the project benefits management plan.

Interesting replies everyone thanks. I get the impression from reading all your comments that organisations are getting better at coming up with a business case prior to initiating projects. Business case should be prerogative of Project sponsor as he is the one who would be funding the project. He must visualize the value potential of the product/service that he is putting the money on.
PM in turn must make sure that he is in sync with sponsor by having clarity on business case. Saving Changes...
