From Planning Engineer to PM

Ok doke so I have been planning for roughly 18 years now as a consultant, ...next step Project Manager...ok I know a PM has a lot on his plate, what do you do?? The reason I ask is well the planner is in charge of, man-hours,budgets,schedule,earned value, progress, risk, etc etc. Would it be a hard jump up to being a PM, I acknowledge certain delegation skills etc would be required, writing summarys is very common to planners, primavera/ms project, cost loaded programmes, resource profiles, is this a natural progression?
Though I don't know the specifics of your Planning Engineer experience, it sounds like a natural progression. I'm not sure how much face-to-face communication or meeting facilitation experience you have, but those are also vital. Also, prepare for problem escalation. Politics inevitably arise in projects. How would you handle a rebellious team member? In other words, it sounds like, based on what you say below, that you've had plenty of exposure to the "science" of PM, but maybe not much with the "art" of PM. Nonetheless, the progression sounds reasonable.
