Hello, I am a new member and have recently learning the project management. What would be two good books I could start reading? Which positions could I apply for or volunteer for to start gaining experience as a project manager? I have recently gotten my CSM (certified scrum master) in 2017 and am applying for the CAPM in 2018.

Welcome Regina. Well it seems you are right into Scrum and Agile, so perhaps pursuing the PMI-ACP certification, and reading Mike Griffiths book: PMI-ACP Exam Prep is a great start.

There are many good books, Regina. Depending on how serious you want your reading to be, you could go straight to the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge or, if you prefer something a little more enjoyable, Project Management for Dummies.

As for gaining experience, you should try to get on a project in any possible role, whether a project team member or a team lead. An alternative would be to check with charitable organizations. They usually have events that need to be managed. Each event is very much like a project.

I agree. Project Management for Dummies is an excellent guide for application of PM principles.

Welcome on board this commnity Regina. I would advise you to go through PMBOK 6th Edition and Agile Guide.

As for volunteering, as I always say, starting as a project coordinator is a good start. At least this is my personal experience.

Good Luck !
