Dear PM professionals,

I am trying to find out the current trends in project completion. Is there any recent surveys/studies conducted by any professional organizations on the following:

Globally what percentage of projects are being completed within their scheduled time, budget and successfully meeting the original goals/objectives?

I have gone through the PMI's recent Pulse of the Profession 2018, please suggest other sources apart form this.

Thank you.

While there are some folks who don't agree with the sampling methodology or assessment protocol, you could look at The Standish Group's latest Chaos Report which was based on technology-based projects surveyed in 2013-17.

The surveys vary, but the ones I have seen lately in Australia and New Zealand is that around 35% of projects are completed on time, or on budget, or within defined/agreed objectives or deliverables.

PMI's Pulse of the Profession seems to be the go to for broad stats in research reports I see lately. Several years ago, there were more research arms tackling a variety of related studies, but for your global #, PMI seems to be the recent recognized authority. If you need multiple sources, have you tried McKinsey & Co - https://www.mckinsey.com? They have stats and research info for certain sectors in their PM articles (IT, capital infrastructure, construction, etc). It's not a succinct summary analysis like the Pulse, but you may be able to pull out and piece together what you need.

Thank you for your inputs, I agree with you PMI's Pulse of the Profession 2018 gives more global insight, so far I could not able to find any other survey to match this.

I will go through McKinsey.
