They are two completely different certifications. The PBA is for Business Analysts. The PgMP is for Program Management. You are a Business Analyst now. Are you trying to move more into Project Management? If you are looking for certifications that will compliment your PMP, look at RMP or maybe SP. If you find that you are a PM but still doing a lot of Business Analysis and want to strengthen those skills then you can look at the PBA. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your certifications.
I would suggest that you read up on all of the certifications on PMI and what their prerequisites are.

Thanks young, for sharing your wonderful idea. I have actually a PM role with much focus on business analysis & documentation at the portfolio level. I completely know what prerequisite for PBA & PgMP are. Just more interested in remaining at the portfolio level managing multiple projects with operations.

I am determined to do both PgMP & PBA, but doubting which one to go first with.

Hi Aziz,

This is my personal opinion.

Take both challenges!

First go for PMI-PBA and afterwards try Portfolios (PfMP)!

Your PBA challenge will "give you wings" in order to later put more effort on the Strategic and keep you focused =)

The other way round... you might "get tired" after Programs/Portfolios and not want to go back to Requirements Management & Elicitation.

Best,

Jorge

Thanks Jorge for the clarifications and to the point opinion. Actually, I am much short of meeting the requirement set for the Portfolio Exam, or else would love to do so. For the time being, that's why I preferred PgMP over PfMP.

Yep, personally I am thinking over getting PBA than PgMP. Not sure how much strategically contributing factor PgMP plays to my career.

Thank you,

As Dinah said, these certifications are worlds apart.

Looking at the conversation / discussion, I would also think you should go for the PBA first then PgMP. Good Luck

It depends on your field and career!!! If your work as business analyst and have PMP, try apply PBA!!!! The PgMP is different!!!!

Hi Aziz,
As our friends mentioned both certificates are different.
PBA is related to Business Analysis and PgMP is related to Program Management Professional .
Now it depends on yourself in which direction you want to take your career and you can do best .

Really depends on goals and career path.

"It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars and so on -- whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man -- for precisely the same reasons."
