Hi everyone, I’m attempting my 2nd trial in December. Barely anytime to focus on study, any recommendations on a quick effective and efficient approach?

I agree with all of the responses above. The bottom line is being good & clear in basic concepts explained in PMBOK. this is the key to clear the exam.

Hi Alexandra, ive just got mine in septembre.
My advise to you is to create Memorization Cards and read them from time to time.
Also try to learn by heart the table 1-4 of PMBOK v6 "Project management Process Group and Knowledge Area Mapping". But most important, try to understand the key outputs of each process and how processes connect to each others.
Wish you good success

Hi, process and knowledge area mapping is most important part of PMP certification exam along with its I/O, tools and techniques which can be confusing at times. Therefore, do make handwritten notes at a convenient place and keep revising it on regular basis. Also there will be some questions from project life cycle. However, Project Execution is the most important section of the exam which needs to be practiced the most. One thing which is very clear about the exam is that it is more of a situation or scenario based exam with full of PMBOK concept implications and less of a theoretical exam. Give yourself some time before leaving for exam center in peaceful mind. Give each question sufficient time, read carefully understanding the trick and relating it to the associated process or knowledge area. Try to go through all the questions again once completed if you can manage the time it helped me a lot to score me above proficient.
Wish you luck!!

Hi Deepak, in my first attempt i met target in executing and closing, M&C was below target and surprisingly IN and PL were needs improvement.
The amount of time I invested in preparations and study left me frustrated with these results.
I knew it before I saw the exam results The questions were shocking to me as it was extremely situational and more of an engineering and IT related that I found it difficult to relate to bank/financial sectors projects.
Will do my best and will keep trying and learning till Earnt that PMP certificate ??

Another Question, in PMBOK 6 there’s “Part2: The Standard for Project Management” . What’s the approach of this, it is focused on process groups rather knowledge area, how critical or different is it from part 1?
Also do you recommend studying the Agile guide, coz as far as my experience from 1st attempt, i have not seen many questions on agile or at least it is not on a deep dive level.

The PMBOK 6 will give you the overall framework to understanding Project Management, however, the certification exam requires an analysis of the problem at hand and then guided by the PMBOK you supposed to choose the best choice among almost similar choices. So during the exam for all the 200 questions you should ask yourself what does the PMBOK say or recommend, from that perspective it would be much easier to identify the correct answer among distractors.

Like Ellyan said, work on your knowledge area weakness thoroughly and hopefully you should be a certified PMP!

I went through a lot of dilemma prior to taking the exam on Oct 15, 2018 and was able to pass the exam on my first try with "Above Target" scoring almost in the 90% range.

Based on my experience preparing for the PMP Exam, I believe you need a good 3 weeks (2-3 hrs on weekdays and atleast 7-8 hrs on the weekend) to prepare and the right material to study from. I used the Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep Ninth Edition book. I read it twice (from front to back, and then from back to front). In addition, I did around 700 questions exam prep questions from VMEdu which my company provided but I do not recommend this course. You can opt for FastTrack offered by Rita Mulcahy (www.rmcls.com). Another important task is to memorize the Rita's PMP Process Chart which turned out to be the most helpful when answering questions during the exam. I hope this helps....

Good luck !!
Thanks Avishek
