Hi All - soon to begin a project using TFS (I believe 2015) as the primary tool (typically have used JIRA and MS Project). We will be using Scrum. Please share any experiences using TFS vs. JIRA.

Understood simply a tool, but hearing others experiences with overhead and structuring (epics down to stories and tasks), reporting, visual representation, backlog management, etc. vs the same in JIRA would be great.

Other info: Microsoft stack, aware of the ALM capabilities and other integration points. Mainly looking from a functional perspective.

Andrew -

I worked in a product development shop almost a decade back which had an MS stack and used TFS and found the integration points were the main advantage. I did not find they had quite the level of support for agile lifecycles back then but I know MS has invested a lot in that direction since.

The main advantage I'd see of JIRA over TFS or competing team work management platforms is the volume of third-party add-ons available. For example, if you look at common story mapping solutions, nearly all integrate with JIRA but very few would integrate with TFS.

very interesting thread since I have just started working with JIRA in my new company and they do also use them for agile workflows (will start using them intensively somewhen in near future).
I am not able to answer your request, Andrew, but will be very interested in the discussion points what will be mentioned in that thread.

just a- maybe stupid - question: What is TFS standing for?

Regards,

Markus
