Considering your 2019 New Years Resolutions - what are your goals in Professional/Personal Goals? Are you set towards obtaining Professional Designations/Career Advancement/Personal Growth?
I know the "destination" is often the hardest part of setting goals - with the challenge that "we don't know we're going to do next" or "what we want to do".
At the same time your destination is critical and also the most important piece.
As you move forward and consider your goals & conversations - remember 3 things:
1) Why am I here?
2) What do I want to accomplish?
3) What am I excited about?
I've spent the last two years executing marketing strategies and sales performance goals into projects. I've had amazing results and obtained multiple Professional Designations along the way which I find exciting and I want to enter full time project management. Saving Changes...
Professional goals I have a numbers of credentials to achieve under my SDA (Skills Development Activities)
Personal I want to wreck the Bell Curve and loose weight.
I used to be a bodybuilder and trainer in younger days.
If you can get discipline to earn more education you can easily do the same thing to break the bell curve and take it 3 standard deviations from the norm at that!

William, thanks for your motivating thoughts, I also used to have six packs abs headed for black belt in martial art, now it is time for six sigma towards black belt.

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. – Nelson Mandela"
If you knocked out the PSM I & II -- you've got nothing to fear, as far as budget, does the ROI make sense? If it does, than the cost is insignificant.
Thanks for sharing -- good luck!
Thanks William!
The fear factor relates to the very small number of folks who have achieved the PSM III compared with the lower two credentials coupled with the much higher cost to write the exam. I'm sure I will overcome that fear once I give myself some free time to focus on preparing for it.
The ROI is murkier - i doubt i will ever be able to directly attribute winning a gig or landing a job to it but in the very busy swimming pool of agile certifications, the PSM III is a little less crowded.

I've noticed the PSM III is not as extensive - such is the key. Will it make a difference in your objectives? If you think it will - I'm sure you'll get your ROI.
Even though it can all be hard or scary -- that's the point. If it wasn't, anybody could do it.

It looks like this coming year I will have to make the decision whether to take a management path or a specialized technical one. They have their pros and cons but at this point in my career, to keep advancing (to the higher pay grade in particular) those are really my 2 options.
That is a nice thing about working as a PM in a technical field. You get a broader business perspective than most, and you get a lot of visibility which can open doors for future jobs...provided you don't blow it. Saving Changes...

You do have a veritable alphabet soup of certifications behind your name as it is. I began 2018 with one and finished with 4 more.
A masters degree vs. the multiple Designations is an argument I’ve heard before. I suppose it’s how well you market yourself from them to the person you’re giving your pitch too.
Good luck.
Thank you and Good Luck to you too with your Alphabet Soup ! Saving Changes...
