There are differences between Planner and Scheduler as far as scope of work some organization have both some only one Planner some don't they expect the Project Manager to do every thing so if you have do they report to you? Saving Changes...
In simple words Planner do What & How and Scheduler do Who & When
Do you have them in your team reporting to you? Saving Changes...

Only really had this on REALLY big projects or as a supporting function in the PMO. On a big project yes they do report to the PM but in the PMO the report to the PMO manager (or whatever title the person has)
The project planner lays out the tasks that have to be completed. The scheduler puts them into the planning tool and links them to the other tasks. I would not say they are reporting to me so much as we work hand-in-hand to find solutions.

Keith, that's little confusing for me after all the PM is accountable and responsible for the outcome of the project so I expect that both would report to the PM

Rajesh, in big scale big project they have both positions plus PM
this tends to be common on larger construction or other capital intensive projects, but this is the exception rather than the rule on technology-oriented projects.

Fully agree with Kiron. When I used to work with large international company, there was a whole planning and scheduling department but now that I am working with consultancy companies, we do that ourselves including procurement, risk management and scheduling / planning. Saving Changes...
