The term Ethics is a relative one.

Online hacking is considered non-ethical by hosts, but there are Ethical hackers (?).
Similar analogy can be found for each and everything.

The term often used by many is the "corrupt politician", but to me political leaders have a large mass of people behind them. So if politician is corrupt, so will be his followers.

Had the world were ethically perfect, there wouldn't have to be pockets of femine, sufferings, war, ethnic violence etc.
Let's hope 2019 may bring happiness to many.....

Thank you Mohamed. Recently, the Australian Federal Parliament and the major parties have been hacked! Is there ethical hacking? I'd like to believe so - in order to stop hacking you need to be prepared - and being prepared is by having "ethical hackers" who can test your network.

Privacy, while not new, will remain a hot ethical topic for 2019 and it will get even hotter. Because privacy and security will forever remain at the opposite sides of the scale it can be considered an ethical cancer. Many valiant attempts to resolve it is made but progress is slow and painful.

Thank you Anton! I agree with you Privacy and Security remain on the agenda. The recent hacking of the Australian Federal Parliament network along with the major parties raised more questions about both privacy and security.

What a great discussion. From my point of view I would expect more focus on handling data and privacy. Data misuse in order to generate profits seemed to be on the rise to me. I know we often sign agreements which we hardly read and I consider that unfair because people are not explicity informed what happens when they sign up for portals, electronic tools etc. nowadays so many providers require you to use electronic access, e.g. healthcare. But are my data safe?

Thank you Lenka. The Australian Health Record had lots of Australians "opting out" in order to keep their data private. Is its safe? Is it secured? will it be shared with my employer in the future? will it be shared with insurance companies ? The Government tried its best to provide assurance and address these questions.

Not to answer the question
My biggest concern is with a global trend of declining values, and the increased social acceptance and unspoken approval of such behavior. Not to say it is all bad, but good values, and respect is becoming more of an exception than the norm.

Thank you John! Unfortunately, I agree with you! I look at what's happening in Australia with one Royal Commission after the other exposing the unfair and disrespectful treatments of banks and financial institutions clients, the aged care industry .. Why can't people get it right from the start? Is a lack of empathy for the other person at the core of this? Are profits and "getting away with bad behaviours" becoming the main objective? and what can we do to change that?

We have few good tools to guide our ethical inquiry. Many people confuse holding a published code of ethics with the ability to reason ethically about the morality (the good and bad) of the situation.

As our organizations become more diverse, we need tools that can help us understand that the other's person's behavior might be acceptable in some situations.

Related to tools, too, is the idea that most people (in the model described by UNESCO's Riel Miller) are "futures illiterate." Although our society is changing and will continue to change, most people don't have the tools to anticipate the range of possible outcomes of future scenarios.
Thanks a lot Greg for your contribution. I look at the number of Royal Commissions in Australia in 2018 and now in 2019, and I wonder why we can't get it right in the first place!

Thanks for this topic, dear Amany.
Ethics is a topic relevant at any time, and project managers, as practitioners and professionals need to become comfortable in acting ethically.
The rise of the internet of things, the need for professionalism and for the management of projects with remote teams will impact more and more the activity of project managers.
Thank you Lily. Our world is becoming more complex every day!

In 2019, be prepared for the top 3 ethical issues of the world to face makers and leaders and project managers to create change.
"Top 3 Ethical Issues" :
How to Face Our Mudra (Waste) ,
How to Face Our Planet (Earth) , and
How to Face Our People (Homosapien and AI).
Project Managers will integrate the quadruple bottom-line as we look to commercial projects in the aero & quantum spaces.
It will become important to incorporate our technologies, knowledge, and processes to ensure the efficient and manageable systems we create, manage, and redefine are balanced and productive.
Thank you Morgan! What a lovely way of putting it!

For me I think most important now are:

1. End of Racism and Favoritism at workplaces.
2. Compassionate to all people around us and genuinely understanding their problems.
3. Give utmost importance to fair Wealth distribution in society and try to alleviate poverty.

Regards,
Thank you Asif.
