Lots of good advice here. I'll share other thoughts.

You might want to have some thoughts around why you need a coach and understand the difference between a mentor, coach and sponsor.
You may need one or more of the above depending on your current issues, needs and goals.

I used a career coach once several years ago, I spent one hour with her and she gave me some tools, and the best advice I've ever received. Today, I have a close advisory group that I check in with from time to time.
