Dear community,
what do you think, whose responsibility should be handling operational changes when transformation project is being launched? Some consider leaving this for BAU, some tend to associate them with project, but constant operational (BAU) changes will definitely keep changing the scope of the project, timing, cost, and it seems to become to a never ending story when at some point in time Project is to be considered as BAU in itself. It seems project definition is not respected. So should project accept such responsibility? Please share your opinions. Thanks. Saving Changes...

Change brought about by a project, regardless of whether it is operational (process) or culture is part of the project and it should be facilitated by the PM. Not managed but facilitated as part of the project which resulted in the change. If you think about it in a bigger context you cannot consider a project successful if the change it brought about isn't take care of. In such cases you end up with a deliverable that is not adopted (used).

Hi Anton, thankn for the response. Some precision though; I am talking about BAU changes brought NOT by the project, otherwise there would be no question raised. Thanks.

Changes external to the project are the responsibility of operational or other project teams (if those are driving the change). However, managing the impacts of those other changes on the project is the project team's responsibility.

A change in SOP's, whether brought on by a transformation or not, is the responsibility of leadership, instled via practices, community engagement, and dissemination of goals, intent, and vision, as opposed to a one off project. That said, there would be an expection for those executing on the new operationg procedures to begin incorporating them into thier projects. Saving Changes...
