When you pay too much you loose a little money that's it but when you pay too little you loose everything most of the time because the item you bought was incapable of doing what you intended to use it for.

Regardind human nature, even if we take time, cost and quality into account, most of the times what I see is that in the end it comes down to (perceived or psychological) value for money since no real hard assessment is done...
