I am planning to learn a project management software. Which is better - Microsoft Project or Primavera?

It depends, really :) Honestly, out of the two, I'd say MSP. MPUG is a great resource. Also, consider spending time with Jira by Atlassian. Have fun!

Sridharan,

You can see what is most used in your industry and region. That will be good for the current market. I known that most large construction project that has a planning team use Primavera, smaller on with no team use MSP. In the software industry, other tools are used like Jira, proposed by Andrew.

Hi. I have personally used MSP for years, it is really good for schedule management, especially if you work on personal desktop. Primavera can be learned later, if you have requirement of managing multiple projects together. We use JIRA as issue tracking tool.

Andrew & Vincent have already covered it I think, but for academic interest, popular options also include Trello & ZenHub on the Agile side
