The secret of getting ahead is getting started" -Mark Twain.
Since you have taken the first step of journey of 1000 miles, i must appreciate each one you.
But I must warn you of Parkinson's law "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion".Which implies, that we tend to work harder only when the date of completion is near. (I used to call it engineer's syndrome as this is way we prepared for my Engineering degree, but it's applicable to every industry and found it's called as Parkinson's law so credit to him).
I would suggest following sequence to get PMP.
1.) Register for PMI.
2.) Apply for PMP Exam.
3.) Once your application is accepted schedule the pmp exam at a prometric center, 90 days later(or reasonable target date for you).
4.) Once you have done this, you will automatically be serious about your preparation and respect your time.
5.) Then you have to discipline to go over rita twice and practice.
6.) Start taking mock exams 45days prior to improve your pace.
7.) Clear the PMP.
Note: With due respect "Guide to PMBOK" also called as PMBOK by most is very exhaustive and studying only through that for PMP exam is too cumbersome. I highly recommend, Rita Mulcahy's 9th Edition Book Based on 6th version of the PMBOK for the Exam. The practice question after each chapter are very similar to actual exam questions.
All the best for PMP preparation. Saving Changes...

The PMP exams is based on assumptions that the project is so large that all the processes mentioned in PMBOK are utilized. Also the PM's approach towards managing the project may vary significantly than what PMBOK prescribes and what is practically followed in your organization. I would suggest you read and understand Rita Mulcahy 9th Edition Book for Exam Prep. Understand what should be Project Manager's approach , i.e. To be proactive, To be on constant look out to prevent unnecessary changes, follow the change control board, Manage stakeholder using emotional intelligence, etc. Then you need to approach exam questions with that mindset.
I have created study group on linkedin. To help out pmp aspirants in exam preparation .
The name group is "PMP Version6 Exam Preparation". In case you have specific questions regarding any topic we can provide guidance on that. Others will learn from your questions.
