I would suggest you to create a real life problem statement, build a project plan around it and share here. We all will be happy to share our feedback on the plan.

Hi Savrabh,
thanks for your response, but that is my dilemma, I have not done this before and iam in the process of studying what an actual PMP looks like so in future i can do one by myself. So in order to better understand it i would like to have a visual of an actual plan as a learning tool, you understand?. Would you be in a position to provide one?. Thanks

Unfortunately, that will be a difficult request to satisfy. It is not only about the individual sharing the information, but the rules and ethics around it from an organizational aspect. What Savrabh suggested is good. Come up with a test scenario, like building a house, planning a wedding, or studying for your PMP. Use the PMBOK as a reference.

Hi Jeremiah,

Create problem statement - Identify stakeholders - Create a schedule of various activities - allocate a budget to each activities (based on man hours rate + cost of material + rentals etc) + define milestone of each activity + identify input and for that activity + list down all the risk involved and its mitigation plan. There is no one proper format, but this will give you a gist.

Hi Jeremiah,
What I understand that you like to see the project plan and how it's look like.

This you can get on internet, many project plan sample are available on internet.

However to understand the know how to prepare peoject schedule, you have to start your own schedule based on your current understanding and then get it checked and reviwed by some expert. I totally agree with Andrew's and Savrabh's reply in this regard.

To learn swimming you have to first enter into water.
All the best.

Hi Jeremiah,
Each project is unique. So the related plan is unique. If there had been such a chance to have a general project plan, the PMO would have created and published it.
You may be able to find a guideline for your industry and project type, but you need to take the steps and create it for your project.

Hi Jermiah,
You can find draft plans from the MS project itself i.e. open MS project 2013 or above version. Within that search template and you should get some sample project plans. You may choose the one relevant to you but I do agree with everyone's feedback above.

I might still have a copy of one I developed with other experienced professionals during graduate school. It is not a "real" project (prototype race car similar to a small aircraft design), but it is not proprietary and covers contracting through project termination. I will check later to see if I can find it.

Hello Jermiah ,

A project plan is a road-map that shows the steps you need to take to get from A to B. It shows how you get from your current state to the desired future state.
It will be better for you if you start and practice with small project which is easily relates to our life.

For Example - Project "Make The Cake".
Now to prepare the Project Plan ,you need to be clear on below points:
1. Why do you want to make cake?
2. What cake exactly do you want to make?
3. When? The deadlines and dependencies.
4. How? The process or methodology.
5. Who will eat this cake ? e.g you and your family

Now you can brake this project in below phases :-

1- Initiation - In this phase , you can perform these sub tasks e.g review the different recipes , shortlist the recipe , create recipe and finish Cake Definition ( flavor , size , weight, design etc.)

2- Planing- In Planning, Prepare Shopping List, Purchase Items,Prepare Kitchen , Complete Cake Planning.

3- Baking- In this phase, Prepare Ingredients,Mix Ingredients,Put Mixture in Baking Tray ,Cook and Complete the cooking.

4-Evaluate- In Evaluation , Allow cake to cool , Eat Cake, Review it and Complete Evaluation.

5- Closure - Write Lesson Learned , Closing the Project.

You can use MS-Project for preparing Project Plan.

In MS- Project , you can put these tasks in Task Sheet.
Tasks 1,2,3 and 4 are Summary Task .
Put sub tasks in Summary Task respectively.
Enter the Duration and Resource Details too.
You can use "PREDECESSORS" to link the tasks.
You can get WBS details in MS Project too .

Just try this and explore more MS Project functions to prepare better plan.

I suggest to you start with small and interesting projects for practicing.
