Presently, the brief profile next to member's responses/answer shows member's network size. Does the influence score provide better metrics for member's knowledge and community influence? Please vote at the poll, 1. Yes. Influence score is a better metrics. 2. No. Network size is just appropriate. 3. Maybe both. Network size along with influence score is better. 4. Neither. These are irrelevant to answer/responses.
Also, please share your understanding on influence score and its relevance to member's knowledge and community influence. Saving Changes...

I'd say both (and will vote the same on the poll). In one of our community improvement threads, I had mad a similar suggestion.
As far as the algorithm behind the influence score; it does not depend on the quality of contributions, simply the contribution, and number of, itself. So whereas for many the influence rating is in direct correlation to the quality of contributions, it is not a given.

Andrew - Thanks for the response. This will be a good effort if more members participate to share their take on the influence score. So that, the influence score becomes more than a mystery number.

Read how influence score is created and you will see that influence score is wasted (in terms of Lean ). For example, lot of people make comments on post like "thanks for sharing" or lot of people make lot of questions to increment the score.

Sergio – You have shared some good points and these points resonate with many amongst us. The repetitive responses (like, Thanks for sharing) can easily be addressed by a ‘Like button’ feature. Past duplicate questions can be clubbed together for central access. Such measures will also free up good amount of real estate at this forum for more appropriate input.

Some people are working to increase the influence and be included into the poster. Some people have published into linkedin that they are at the top or the influences here. Each people have its own objective. My objective here is to learn from all people comments, not to be in a poster.

To me, influence rating seems like a marketing strategy to encourage participation and free site content more than a useful metric. It's much the same as network size. I don't even consider them.
I can tell that there are algorithms to boost it when I see people with 100k+ network connections (no offense :-), and I haven't noticed any difference (automated alerts, messages, etc.) due to having connections. All the value is perception as far as I can tell.
I judge input based on whether or not it provides insight. To me, judgement based on some vague credentials fits straight into various classical logical fallacies appealing to the person, not the message.

Keith – Thanks for sharing perspective. Like most folks, I do not trust anything on the internet despite Trustworthy Label stamped on them. Depending on the situation, some level of due diligence helps me decide if content can be used.
The influence score has potential to be a useful metrics …by identifying 2 important aspects, first one is ‘the depth of knowledge’ and other one is ‘community participation’. The community participation leads to availability of ‘the richness of knowledge’ at site and is direct result of the broad range of professional experiences shared by its members. Presently, I’m curiously watching the evolution of the influence score and hopefully we’ll discover something useful from this continued discussion.
