My experience of this is that it varies greatly and that having a certain qualification does not mean you ARE on THE path. I suppose there are recommended qualifications that might help you land a job as a BA or senior BA but it is never a given. Typically the career path to becoming a COE is along the financial track but I'm not sure BA is that clear cut because I know good BA's that came up through business and others through technical.
