Our Enterprise Strategy and Project Management Office is redefining the way we do our work and are looking for PPM tools that can support agile, waterfall, and hybrid project management, portfolio and project management, and support projects from ideation through delivery. We need a strong reporting tool that will allow us to prioritize our work to support organizational strategy and reduce the time we spend on work that does not add value. We used Planview in the past and moved to ServiceNow about 2 years ago... neither are meeting our needs right now. We've done some customization to get by, but would like to have something that comes closer to what we want out of the box. Thanks! I look forward to your recommendations.
(Please no sales calls - we're still in the needs assessment phase of our search). Saving Changes...

Abbigail,
I'm surprised that Planview isn't working out for you, especially with their acquisition of LeanKit I would think it puts them in a unique dual-purpose category.
Unfortunately there is no on solution or suite to rule them all. Even my favorite PPM Tools (Workfront, JIRA, Trello) have weaknesses by themselves but together they are excellent. As stated above, put together a scorecard of what the most important features are for your organization and then start your search from there. Having done several of these searches I would recommend you be ready for extensive demo sessions and make sure the serious contenders give you at least a 30 day trial. I've been brought in too many times after-the-fact where the PMO didn't do an extensive trial and the software they purchased only did a fraction of what they needed out of the box.
If you really need to run Agile and Traditional projects and have upward reporting then you're likely looking at 2 platforms with an integration between them. Are you using Agile for software delivery where it would ideally support code, testing, and release? Saving Changes...

Yes, we have begun documenting our requirements and have a pretty good list. We have long suspected (based on our current situation) that whatever we choose will need to be paired with someone who can support the product. Honestly, we haven't done a lot of looking around at this point, so my request was really to populate my shopping list.
I have also been developing a list of requirement for PPM selection, would you be interested in sharing your list in exchange for my list? Saving Changes...

It would be interesting to discuss the list of requirements if it was created.
Does it include portfolio scheduling and optimization taking into account project priorities, resource availability and financial constraints? Saving Changes...

I work for the provincial government so the actual purchase of a PPM tool is still very far off in the future. We have finished gathering requirements and now these are being reviewed by management, this process should take them at least 6 months.

Usually the budget is limited and so optimizing portfolio and creating portfolio schedule that takes into account financial limitations is necessary feature.
I hope that you included this in the list.
