I always found it more rewarding to serve external customers, since the relationship is clear (based on a contract) and you can over-satisfy expectations. Did that since 1986. With internal customers, there is always more politics involved which makes the relationship less clear. In case of conflicts, you cannot sue internal customers, and they know it. Saving Changes...
An external client can sue you and depending on the contract, they might put you out of business. An internal client could cost you your job, or impact your credibility or ability to progress within the company.

Certainly internal customer. When you deal with internal customer the expectations are high. You can take your family for example :)
When you deal with external customers the roles are clear - buyer and seller. The cost benefit is clearly defined and understand by both the parties which makes it easier to deal with external customers compared to internal. Saving Changes...
