How far can you go back with project experience requirements for PMP?

I just submitted my application for my CAPM but afterward i explored the area in which you could submit for PMP exam and I wonder if i could have went that route instead. About 8 years ago I was a project lead/ project manager for a telecommunication company and was in charge of many large scale projects. Most of these projects lasted a several months . Is there a cut off period or can you use the experiences from 8 plus years ago?
