Hi all,

One of our objectives as an IT area is to establish an IT project management office. We are starting with the business case to define the opportunity, the scope, the goals of the project, the benefits, the objectives and the risks.

Once the case study is approved we could begin to define the project as such, given that the case study would be the input for the initial stages.
I hope to be right and if someone has any recommendations or templates that can help me I would be very grateful.

Regards

Hi,
I have a suggestion for your PMO if you have to manage multiple projects. Pls assign a value to the benefits realized from each project based on your area of work. You may arrive at some matrix and assign scores(Eg: Productivity Improving Project, Manpower Optimisation Projects, Green Initiative which removes Paper etc) which This will help you do projects which add value to the business and also helps PMO to prioritise the projects.

Fernando,
I encourage you to visit PMO Global Allicance web site, https://www.pmoga.com/, and the PMO Value Ring model. It has a very good guideline wich will enable you to think about your new PMO.

Good luck!

Why IT PMO? Why not simple PMO? Is there a specific methodology that applies to IT projects only?
The PMO as a concept is needed when you have more project managers, if in IT there are 6-7 parallel project maybe a PMO is justified; the size of the PMO depends on the scope.
I see more value in a supportive enterprise PMO. There is always the governance aspect that should add value but in many cases it doesn't.

As mentioned above i also also suggest when you manage multiple projects you should always try to group them based on Outcome and create program. This will help in improving quality and also will resolve multiple issues by one program. So try outcome mapping approach

Curios about why the IT PMO instead of a global PMO in the company. would be nice to know the background.
I had some IT projects that requieres a PM in a different scenario that the Organization PMO, for the IT perspective is a key having a business sponsorship for the IT initiatives, in that sense I do not consider an IT PMO but maybe some IT project managers that have an specific background for the IT projects.
In IT project management considerer the stakeholder analysis more broader than IT and as well communications.

Hello Fernando,

There was a nice article about IT PMO published recently: https://www.projectmanagement.com/articles...d-of-the-IT-PMO

Some good insights in it to consider while creating your IT PMO.

Good luck!
