What are the reasons why a project manager should select PMP certification rather than PRINCE2 or vise-versa, are they complementary or competing?
Do I need to register for PPRINCE2 certification after PMP or otherwise?

1- PRINCE 2 is more geared towards how to manage projects in controlled environments while PMP exposes you to project management in general.

2- PRINCE 2 is more well known in the UK while PMP is more globally recognized by employers.

3- If you are willing to do both, then maybe you should register for PMP first because when you have PMP, PRINCE 2 recognizes this certificate so you won’t need to do the PRINCE 2 Foundation which is a prerequisite to the Practitioner exam so you can do the PRINCE 2 Practitioner exam directly.

Hope this helps !

I didn't know that, I wonder if that applies to the Prince 2 Agile as well.
I am studying for my PMP now, I might have to go into Prince 2 next.

Well both are different PRINCE2is more accepted in UK, European Union and it teach you practically how to do the project. PMP is also powerful in North America and globally
In my opinion one should do both if you can afford financially if not then at least learn about PRINCE2 even without writing the exam

You mean skipping the PRINCE 2 Agile Foundation Certificate ? I believe it does apply for both, that’s what I recall reading online when I was exploring the details of this certification. One more thing, now you can also do those exams online, but of course they are proctored exams.

It really depends on the purpose for seeking a certification. If it is to get hired, I'd suggest looking at the job postings or profiles for PM roles to see what they are asking for. If the organization has based their PM method on PRINCE2, that would likely be more apropos, but otherwise I'd give the PMP a higher emphasis.

Many ways to evaluate it. What is more in demand in your country and field?

PRINCE2 is UK base, many countries where the UK has a bigger influence the USA are more aligned on that certification.

PRINCE2 cover some more in governance

Do both if you can!

In terms of popularity, I would say it is a 50/50 mix in Australia between Prince2 and PMP. Excluding Agile, which is especially popular in the financial sector.
