To all my colleagues in the fields of Project Management, Agile practice development and management as well as Earned Value Management(EVM) I want your feedback on the following questions;

1. How many of you are successfully using EVM methods to measure business value back to an organization using Agile methods for projects?

2. If you are using EVM in your implementation of Agile are you willing to share how your demonstrating business value through this method?

Comments and feedback welcome.

We use EVM in our shop. Our approach is more of a hybrid, as we are a vendor working with clients in systems implementations for business transformations. In order to scope and budget the project we exercise some upfront planning, then drive the work through a scrum-like approach.

Since we have a budget and overall schedule, we can use standard EVM. Project numbers are reported out of our ERP and presented via Excel dashboard with built-in formulas.

We use EVM in our Development environment. It is inbuilt into our Planning/tracking templates of MPP. EVM measures are reported to Higher Management periodically.
